Skin Needling Sydney Ask A Question

What is Permanent Makeup?

Commonly referred to as permanent makeup, allowing you to wake up with your makeup on! While most beauty clinics offer this service, The Harley Clinic also offer medical tattooing, which is an advanced form of permanent cosmetics to help someone rebuild their body image after scarring or breast surgery.

Cosmetic tattooing differs from regular tattooing on many levels. While often called “permanent”, it is actually not a permanent treatment, usually lasting 2-5 years.

Enhancing your natural features

Tattoo-002

A major difference to regular tattooing is in the goal our clients are looking to achieve. Where regular tattoos are for artistic outcome, permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing is to enhance your natural features. The two tattooing techniques are very different. Cosmetic tattooing applies the ink (pigment) into the top layer of skin (epidermis) and uses a natural pigment.

Below are a list of the most popular areas this treatment can enhance:

  • Eyebrows – If you pencil your eyebrows every day, if you suffer gaps, or if you have over-plucked your eyebrows, this treatment will have a dramatic effect on your life through feathered eyebrow tattooing.
  • Eyes – wake up with your eye liner on every day!
  • Lips – improve the colour or shape of your lips or make your lips to look plumper with more definition.
  • Breast or Areola – most common after breast surgery or breast reconstruction.
  • Scars – scarring along the eyebrows or within the beard or moustache for men can result in hairs not growing.
  • Hair Loss – This is a specialty micropigmentation treatment offered by DHI Australia. For more information on scalp micropigmentation for hair loss, see their website.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it last?

This will vary from person to person depending on your skin type, amount of sun exposure and so on. As a guide, we would usually have our clients come back between 1 and 3 years to redo or touch up their effects. This could be because the colour has faded (naturally) or the colour has changed over the years. Remember that the natural pigments or inks used are semi-permanent.

How many treatments will I need?

There are three parts to your treatment, the initial consultation, treatment and a retouch. Most people have the initial consultation at the same time as the treatment (but this is up to you). Four weeks after you will need to come back for an evaluation and a retouch. This is normal and a shorter appointment to see how the area has healed and to make sure the pigment has held as everyone heals differently. If more pigment is needed we can retouch the area.

Will this treatment hurt?

This is a gentle procedure, many clients say it is similar to putting an electric toothbrush on their skin or similar to plucking your eyebrows.

What treatments are available?

The most popular involve the eyebrows, lips, eyes, breasts and hairline. But the possibilities are endless.

How long will it take?

The length will depend on the area and individual requirements. This is not something that is rushed as it is a two-way communication process where we listen to the look you want to achieve and make recommendations based on our experience and what will give you the most natural look possible. As a guide you should allow between 1 and 3 hours.

What do I do after my treatment?

You will be given complete aftercare instructions following your treatment. Initially, your colour will look darker or more intense than the colour you chose, however this will soften or fade in the next 2-3 days.

Do I need to take time off work to recover?

No, there is no need to take time off work, this is a minimally invasive treatment. Some of our clients choose to take time off work, but in fact you can return straight to work after your treatment.

What’s the next step?

Like all treatments offered at The Harley Clinic, this is a highly customised treatment. The best way to start is to book a complimentary consultation with one of our highly trained and experienced staff. During this consultation we can discuss the treatment, your expectations and answer any questions you might have. Give our friendly team a call on 1300 379 581 or book online.
